My name is Erika Ann Orstad, and I'm from Weston, Florida.
From 2019-2021, I reported as a Multimedia Journalist for WMBB News 13 in Panama City, Fla., where I had the amazing opportunity to tell the stories of a rebuilding community devastated by Category 5 Hurricane Michael in 2018 as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, political controversy and more. I graduated from the University of Miami in 2019, with a B.S.C. in Broadcast Journalism. I double-majored in political science and minored in film, which has given me additional skills to be the best communicator and storyteller I can be. I've been creating videos and short films since I was 10 years old, when I got my first mini-DV tape video camera; 14 years later, I am working towards becoming a long-form investigative journalist and documentarian. I have produced three long-form pieces, winning a collegiate Emmy award in 2017 for my story on concussions, Head Games. I've also produced many short form news packages and human-interest feature stories. My favorite thing to do is tell stories, whether it's through an investigative report, human interest feature or a single photo. |
